for rare Longines military watch...
Sold for an amazing 11,200...

This rare Longines military wristwatch was made for the RAF for a short period in small quantities during the 1940's We anticipated it would create interest & expected it to do well...but how well?

Research indicated that the last time this model watch was sold was in 2004 when a similar one sold for just under 600. We estimated that it should reach that figure & possibly more & so give it a tentative pre-auction estimate of 500-800. So we were delighted (& pleasantly surprised) when it sold for 11,200...

There has been a growing & strong interest in military & other collectable wristwatches in the watch section of our Jewellery, Silver, Watches & Small Collectable auctions. We have recently successfully sold a Brietling Navitimer for 1,700, a lady's Rolex Oyster for 2,800 & a gentleman's for 1,100 plus a Lemania military watch for 1,950

Our previous top price for a military wristwatch was for a rare Grana 'Dirty Dozen' watch (above).  During WWII the British military ordered high quality wristwatches from twelve different makers, these have become known as the 'Dirty Dozen'. The rarest due to the low numbers produced, was made by Grana. Watch collectors want a full set so they are keenly sought after when appearing in auction. Our Grana watch, even though in not the greatest condition, sold for 5,000 in June 2018.
